The basics

  • The Regent has 75 HP, 3 Energy and 99 Gold, plus a second resource nobody else has: Stars.
  • Many of his cards cost Stars as well as, or instead of, Energy.
  • Stars do not drain at the end of your turn. The only time the code sets them to 0 is when the player dies, so they bank across turns.
  • Each combat begins with 3 from his relic, Divine Right.

Starting deck

  • The starting deck is ten cards: four Strike, four Defend, one Falling Star and one Venerate.
  • Falling Star costs 0 Energy and 2 Stars for 8 damage plus 1 Weak and 1 Vulnerable, so turn 1 is Falling Star from the Divine Right Stars, then Strikes into the Vulnerable target.
  • Venerate is 1 Energy for 2 Stars, exactly one more Falling Star.

Forge and the Blade

  • The other half of his kit is Forge.
  • The first time you Forge in a combat, a Sovereign Blade appears in your hand: a 2-Energy Attack with Retain that starts at 10 damage.
  • Every later Forge adds its number to the Blade's damage for the rest of that combat.
  • Forge cards are cheap and do other things too, so the Blade grows as a side effect of normal play.

Our picks

What to pick up

Fits any deck

  • Big Bang fits any deck: for 0 Energy it draws a card, gains 1 Energy and 1 Star, Forges 5 and Exhausts.
  • Tyranny draws an extra card each turn, then exhausts a chosen card from the hand, so Strikes and Defends leave the fight.
  • Reflect gives 15 Block for 1 Energy and 3 Stars and returns blocked attack damage to the attacker that turn.
  • Comet deals 33 damage with 3 Weak and 3 Vulnerable for 0 Energy and 5 Stars.
  • CHARGE!! turns 2 chosen draw-pile cards into Minion Dive Bombs, 0-cost attacks for 13 damage.

Act 1 picks

  • Act 1 rewards cards that work at once.
  • Gamma Blast turns the 3 Stars from Divine Right into 13 damage, 2 Weak and 2 Vulnerable for 0 Energy.
  • Bulwark gives 12 Block and Forge 10 for 2 Energy.
  • Bombardment pays 3 Energy once, then replays itself from the exhaust pile for 18 damage every turn.
  • Star makers such as Hidden Cache can wait until the deck holds two or three spenders.

Upgrade order

  • Upgrade Tyranny first, since Innate puts it in the opening hand, then Falling Star, 8 to 12 damage, and Void Form, which loses Ethereal.
  • Big Bang gains only Innate and can wait.
  • Devastate looks strong but spends 4 Stars and 1 Energy on one 30-damage hit, and Solar Strike is 9 damage and 1 Star for 1 Energy, little more than a Strike.

Notes

  • The Regent unlocks after you play a run as the Silent. The run only has to end, not be won, and the unlock is presented on the Timeline screen afterwards.
  • He unlocks the Necrobinder in turn.
  • Star-cost cards can only be played if you have the Stars, and the counter never dips below 0.
  • Hammer Time and Largesse appear only in multiplayer runs.
  • Void Form ends your turn when played and is Ethereal, so it Exhausts if you hold it.
  • Meteor Shower and The Sealed Throne are his Ancient cards.

Goes well with

RegentDefect
  • Hammer Time makes every ally Forge when he Forges: the Defect gets a Sovereign Blade of its own that grows all fight.
  • Ignition Channels a Plasma orb for another player: the Regent gains 1 Energy at the start of every turn for the rest of the fight.
  • Energy Surge gives all players 2 Energy, and Star cards still want Energy on top of Stars.

History

The story ofThe Regent7 chapters of the Timeline, from Flourish to Invitation
  1. Flourish
    Chapter 1 of 7

    Discontent

On his home planet, the Regent proclaims to be the heir to the Sun and decides that all the other planets must know!

“Why do you wish for this, Regent? We have everything we need! We needn't eat, we have peace, we cannot die, and we are fashionable!” a fellow Starrian pleads.

    “You are BORING!”

  2. Flourish
    Chapter 2 of 7

    Anomalous Planet

His Majesty barely even looked anymore and swiped through planet profiles in the current constellation. “I DEMAND to visit a more exciting planet!”
The Regent slammed his fists down on the space console—
    *BEEP BEEP BEEP*
    Anomalous Planet Detected!

  3. Flourish
    Chapter 3 of 7

    Friends

His Majesty attempted to make friends. Literally.

They're quite sturdy and decent at following instructions. They're terrible at chess and enjoy pop music. The minions were swiftly demoted from “Friend” to “Minion”.
    Sigh...

  4. Invitation
    Chapter 4 of 7

    I Arrive

    *KABOOOOM*

A fantastic explosion marks the arrival of the Regent. His Majesty's spaceship shattered beyond repair.

    “Finally, I arrive!”

  5. Invitation
    Chapter 5 of 7

    We Need a Hero!

Deadly monsters had begun to trickle out of the Spire at an increasing pace ever since the Doors have reopened...

Brave warriors, explorers, and mercenaries have been sent in but few make progress.
Even fewer make it back alive.

The Regent learns of this dismay and takes it upon himself to become the hero that Preon needs!
    “I enter!!”

  6. Invitation
    Chapter 6 of 7

    Grand Strategy

“Defeat!? Me!!? The Regent of Starris, does not know defeat! The strange man at the top of this tower must be defeated by me and only me!”

The Regent devises a royally brilliant plan to become stronger. To immortalize this, it is etched into a nearby stone.

    T R Y H A R D E R

  7. Invitation
    Chapter 7 of 7

    Little King

“LITTLE KING. YOU BRIM WITH MIGHTINESS LIKE I!”
Tanx is immediately taken with the Regent’s regal confidence.

“DOMINATE THE SPIRE! CRUSH THEM ALL!!” he bellows, hurling a strange sceptre toward him.

“THIS WILL LET YOU FIGHT ON EVEN GROUND!”
