Never the same elite twice in a row. An elite pays 35 to 45 gold and drops a relic.

Weak pool

Each is 1 in 4. No fight comes twice. A fight pays 10 to 20 gold (7 to 15 with Poverty).

Full rules

The first 3 monster rooms you enter take their fight from these 4. The game deals the fights out before you climb: it takes them from the pool one at a time, each equally likely, and puts none back until the pool is empty.

Some fights never follow each other, in either pool: Fuzzy Wurm Crawler and Overgrowth Crawlers; Shrinker Beetle and Overgrowth Crawlers; Group of Slimes, Shroom and Slime and Swarm of Slimes. The game skips such a fight while it has another one to deal.

Full rules

Every monster room after the first 3 takes its fight from these 12. The game deals the fights out before you climb: it takes them from the pool one at a time, each equally likely, and puts none back until the pool is empty.

Some fights never follow each other, in either pool: Fuzzy Wurm Crawler and Overgrowth Crawlers; Shrinker Beetle and Overgrowth Crawlers; Group of Slimes, Shroom and Slime and Swarm of Slimes; Shroom and Slime and Overgrowth Flora. The game skips such a fight while it has another one to deal.

Events

What the map holds

Rooms on the map

Seven columns from seven generated paths hold:

  • Shops: 3
  • Extra rest sites: 6 or 7
  • ? rooms: 10 to 14
  • Elites: 5 (8 with Swarming Elites, Ascension 1)

Fixed rows

  • First row: all fights.
  • Ninth row (seven below the boss): all treasure.
  • Row under the boss: all rest sites.
  • Elites and extra rest sites never land in the first five rows, and rest sites also skip the two rows beneath the fixed rest row.

Which fights you meet

  • Weak pool: covers the first three Monster rooms you enter, and a ? that rolls a fight counts, so early ? rooms spend events while the easy fights wait.
  • Normal fights: the twelve normal encounters are pre-drawn once each, so no normal fight repeats.
  • Elites: pre-drawn with no back-to-back repeats, so your first three elite fights are all different.
  • Byrdonis and Phrog Parasite are short, Bygone Effigy at 127 HP is long.

Notes

How the map is dealt

  • Queue: point types come from a queue (rests, shops, elites, then ? rooms) dealt over shuffled points.
  • In a line: elites, rests, treasure and shops never directly follow their own kind.
  • At a fork: rests, fights, ? rooms, elites and shops never share a parent with their own kind.
  • Clean up: leftovers become fights, duplicate path segments are pruned, and a repair pass refills any type that fell short.
  • Tagged fights (slimes, mushroom, crawler, shrinker) never repeat back to back.

What a ? room rolls

  • Fight: 10%
  • Treasure: 2%
  • Shop: 3%
  • Event: otherwise, never an elite

Misses grow by their base chance, hits reset, and the odds reset each act.

Boss

  • The boss roll is even, but a Standard run gives you the first unseen boss: Vantom, then Ceremonial Beast, then The Kin.
  • Double Boss (Ascension 10) touches only the final act.

A profile's first run

  • Fights, in order: lone Nibbit, slimes, Shrinker Beetle, Inklets, Mawler, Ruby Raiders, pair of Nibbits.
  • Events: Byrdonis Nest then Sapphire Seed; the first two ? rooms are events.
  • Elites: Byrdonis then Phrog Parasite.
