The first 3 card rewards you see are Upgraded. The first Treasure Chest you open is empty.

Two clauses. The next 3 card rewards you generate show every upgradable card already Upgraded, and the counter tracks how many remain; any reward source counts, including extra rewards from relics. Separately, the first Treasure room you enter has no chest inside. Once both have happened it goes dark. It is only offered in single-player runs. Ancient, offered by Ancients.

When to take Silver Crucible

Best taken at the end of an act, since the next reward is usually the boss's Rare pick, giving three upgraded cards total for one empty Treasure chest.

Relics that synergize with Silver Crucible

White Star
White Star adds an extra Rare reward from elites, upgraded while charges last.Elites drop an additional Rare card reward.
Lasting Candy
Lasting Candy adds a Power to rewards, upgraded too.Every other combat, your card rewards gain an additional Power.
Silken Tress
Silken Tress can Glam the same upgraded card.Upon pickup, lose all Gold. Enchant all cards in the first card reward with Glam.
Miniature Cannon
Miniature Cannon pays 3 extra damage on every upgraded Attack you take.Upgraded Attacks deal 3 additional damage.
