Elites drop an additional Rare card reward.
When you finish an Elite room, the reward screen gets a second card reward built with Boss odds, which roll Rare 100% of the time, so it shows 3 Rares from your character's pool. The normal Elite reward is unchanged. Boss rooms do not trigger it. It stops being offered from the Act 3 treasure chest onward, floor 41 solo or 38 in multiplayer.

When to take White Star
Its value is the number of Elites you will still kill, so buy it in Act 1 or early Act 2 and keep routing through Elites. You may skip the reward if it does not fit.
