What Pael says

The first, second and fifth visit as a character each have their own exchange. Every other visit draws one of the repeating lines: the second-visit line or an Any climber line.

How the visit works

His seat

  • Pael is one of the three ancients of Hive, rolled against Orobas and Tezcatara for the first node of Act 2, with nothing to unlock.

Meeting him

  • Arrival heals all missing HP, 80% at Ascension 2.
  • The dragon is exhausted and half asleep, calls the Architect Father, and gives away pieces of himself.

Slots one and two

  • First: one of Pael's Flesh, Pael's Horn and Pael's Tears.
  • Second: starts with Pael's Wing, adds Pael's Claw if at least three of your cards can take the Goopy enchantment and Pael's Tooth if at least five cards are removable.
  • Then doubles every entry before adding Pael's Growth once, so Growth is the rarest roll, one chance in seven when everything qualifies.

Slot three

  • Pael's Eye or Pael's Blood.
  • Pael's Legion is added when you have no pet, meaning no pet relic and no Byrdonis Egg in your deck.

Which relic to take from Pael

Slot three

  • Pael's Blood is a plain extra card every turn and almost always the pick.
  • Pael's Legion is a pet that doubles the Block of one card, then sleeps two turns. Good with one huge Block card.
  • Pael's Eye lets you skip a dead turn once per combat by exhausting your hand for an extra turn.

Slot two

  • Pael's Tooth devours five cards and returns one upgraded after each combat, so you play a thin deck through Act 2 that slowly grows back stronger.
  • Pael's Wing pays a relic for every two card rewards you sacrifice, fine for a finished deck.
  • Pael's Growth puts Clone on one card so you can duplicate it at rest sites. Use it on your build-defining card.
  • Pael's Claw gives every Defend Goopy, it exhausts and each play permanently adds 1 Block, a slow payoff.

Slot one

  • Pael's Flesh is 1 Energy from turn three on, best against Act 2 elites and bosses.
  • Pael's Tears gives 2 Energy next turn whenever you end with energy unspent, for decks that alternate setup and burst.
  • Pael's Horn adds two Relax cards, 3-cost 15 Block with draw and energy next turn, strong but heavy.

Worth knowing

In co-op each player gets their own copy of Pael: the slots are rolled separately for every player, whether Claw, Tooth and Legion can appear depends on that player's own deck and pets, and each player takes one relic. Goopy only goes on a Defend with no other enchantment, so Pael's Claw needs three such Defends and skips any Defend that is already enchanted.
