The Merchant and shop prices

What the Merchant sells, what it costs and how the prices move.

Support your local business.The Merchant

The Merchant sells cards for 50, 75 or 150 gold by rarity, potions for 50, 75 or 100, relics for 175 to 275, and one card removal that starts at 75 gold and costs 25 more each time you use it in a run.

Every price is nudged by a seeded wobble, one of the five character cards is always half price, Membership Card halves everything, and The Courier takes 20% off and restocks each slot you buy.

What is on the shelf

A normal shop stocks fourteen entries for each player. The card slots are fixed by type, in this order: Attack, Attack, Skill, Skill, Power.

Cards

Rarity of each card slot
Common 54%Uncommon 37%Rare 9%

Rare is 9% plus your current rare offset. Common takes what is left.

Relics

Rarity of the two rolled slots
Common 50%Uncommon 33%Rare 17%

The third slot is always a Shop-rarity relic.

Potions

Rarity of each potion
Common 65%Uncommon 25%Rare 10%

Three potions, with no repeats in the set.

  • No repeats. Each character slot draws from your character's unlocked pool. Basic cards are out, and so is anything already in another slot, so a shop never shows the same card twice.
  • It reads your pity. The roll reads the rare offset that combat rewards build up (see the card reward guide) but does not move it. A run that has gone many packs without a rare also sees more rares in the shop.
  • It steps up. If no card of the rolled rarity and type exists, the roll steps up to the next rarity.
  • Never upgraded. Shop cards never get the act-based upgrade roll that reward cards get. An upgraded shop card only comes from a relic.
  • Colorless costs more. The two colorless slots are one uncommon and one rare colorless card, listed 15% above a character card of the same rarity.
  • Your elite relic is safe. Shops pull from the back of the run's shuffled relic list while fights and chests pull from the front. The shop does not take the relic your next elite would have dropped.
  • Never sold: five relics refuse the shop.

Amethyst Aubergine, Bowler Hat, Lucky Fysh, Old Coin and The Courier.

The sale and the removal counter

One card at half price

When the shop is built, one of the five character card slots is picked at random and marked on sale. Its wobbled price is halved with the remainder dropped.

  • Common5023 to 26
  • Rare15071 to 78

Card removal climbs

  • One use per shop.
  • 75 gold, plus 25 for every removal you have already bought this run: 75, 100, 125, 150.
  • With Inflation (Ascension 6 and above) the base is 100 and each use adds 50.
  • The count is kept per player. Only shop removals raise it. Removals from events, rewards and relics do not.

Normal: 75, then +25 per useInflation (Ascension 6 and above): 100, then +50 per use

  • They stack. Both relics change every price, so a rare relic listed at 275 costs 110 with both. Fractions are dropped after the multipliers.
  • Shops only. Price changes only count inside a real Merchant room.

The Courier restocks

  • A card comes back as a card of the same type with its rarity rolled again, and the sale mark is cleared.
  • A relic comes back with its rarity rolled again, and never as one already on display.
  • A potion comes back as a fresh potion.
  • Card removal is the exception and stays one use per visit. The rest of the shop never empties.

Side effects

  • Meal TicketHeals 15 HP when you walk in.
  • Maw BankPays 12 gold per floor until the first time you spend gold in a shop. A purchase that costs nothing does not stop it.
  • Lord's ParasolBuys every stocked card, relic and potion for free the moment you enter.
  • SozuMakes potion purchases fail.
  • Molten EggUpgrades the Attacks on display.
  • Toxic EggUpgrades the Skills on display.
  • Frozen EggUpgrades the Powers on display.
  • Fresnel LensEnchants any displayed card that gains Block with Nimble 2.
