How to unlock The Ironclad

The Ironclad unlocks when you beat the Act 1 boss as The Ironclad.
It is granted mid-run, the instant the boss dies, in Standard mode only.
Because the Ironclad is available from the start and its slot is revealed by Neow, this is usually the first character epoch anyone earns.
It reveals no further slots; the Ironclad's later chapters come from Act 2 (Devastation), Act 3 (The Pact), 15 Elite wins (Ablaze) and 15 boss wins (Snuffed).
