How to beat The Merchant???

Swipe

  • His opening move every time: 13 damage (15 at Ascension 9+). From then on he rolls a move each turn and never uses the same one twice in a row.

Enrage

  • 2 Strength, and it is three times as likely as any one attack.
  • This is what the fight is about: he has 165 HP (175 at Ascension 8+), no Block and no starting powers, so every turn you spend not killing him lets the Strength pile up.

Spew Coins

  • 2 damage eight times. Strength is added to each of the eight hits, so two Enrages turn it into 48.
  • Block this one in full once he has enraged.

Throw Relic

  • 9 damage (10 at Ascension 9+) and 1 Frail.
  • The turn after it is always an attack, never Enrage, so keep Block cards for that turn while Frail cuts them.

Notes

Starting the fight

  • There is no fight button.
  • In the The Merchant??? event, throw a Foul Potion at him while his shop screen is closed, since the potion cannot be aimed with the wares open.
  • That is the only way in, and the event does not come back after the fight.

Where the potion comes from

  • The Potion Courier event hands out three; it is an event potion and is in no other pool.
  • The same bottle thrown at the real Merchant pays 100 gold instead, and used in combat it deals 12 damage to every enemy and to you.

Rewards

  • A fixed 300 gold, The Merchant's Rug???, and every knock-off relic still on his shelves.
  • He stocks six and sells them at 50 gold each, so anything you buy first is one relic less in the haul.

Where he appears

  • The event needs a solo run, any act after the first, and either 100 gold or a Foul Potion in your belt.
