When you choose Rest at a rest site, two potion rewards are added to the rest screen, each a random potion. The rest option's text shows the bonus so you know it is active. If your belt is full you have to drop a potion to take one. Smithing or any other option does not trigger it.

When to take Tiny Mailbox
Good in a deck that rests often and has open potion slots to fill, especially alongside relics that reward drinking potions. A deck that smiths at every site gets nothing from it.
