Today's Daily Climb
todayThe game's one-run-a-day mode, the same for every player. Here is today's character, Ascension, modifiers and seed.
Working out today's climb from the game's seed rules.
How the daily seed works
The game turns the UTC date into a seed, and that seed alone picks the character, the Ascension level and the three modifiers, so every player gets the same climb. A new climb starts at 00:00 UTC, shown in your local time once the page has loaded.
Full seed rules
The game asks Mega Crit's time server for the current time (your own clock if the server cannot be reached), keeps the UTC date and writes it as day, month and year joined by underscores, for example 05_01_2027 for 5 January 2027. That string goes through the same clean-up as a typed custom seed (upper case, the letter O becomes 0 and I becomes 1) and then through the game's own string hash, which seeds its random number generator, a xoshiro256** started through splitmix64. Three numbers are drawn from it and each seeds a generator of its own: the first picks the character from all five, whether or not you have unlocked them; the second rolls the Ascension level, 0 to 10; the third rolls the modifiers.
For the modifiers, the nine good ones are sorted by id, shuffled, and two are drawn. Sealed Deck, Draft and Insanity never appear together, and Character Cards then picks a character other than the one you are playing. One of the seven bad modifiers is drawn last. Every player in the world gets the same character, Ascension and modifiers because nothing but the date goes in.
The run itself is seeded with the date plus the number of players (that date string with _1P added for a solo run, _2P to _4P in co-op), so a co-op lobby plays a different run and posts to its own leaderboard. One score per player per day is accepted.
What can still differ between two players: Ascension is capped at your own highest unlocked level for that character. Act 1 is Overgrowth while the Underdocks is locked, the Underdocks on your first daily after unlocking it, and a coin flip from the run seed once you have seen both; Acts 2 and 3 are the Hive and Glory. The fights, events, relics and boss of each act are drawn from one seeded stream that first shuffles your unlocked relic and ancient pools, so players with different unlock progress meet different enemies from the same seed, while players with the same unlocks get the same run, map layout included (each act's map has its own generator seeded from the run seed).
Neow skips her usual bargain in a daily and only walks you through the set-up of any modifier that needs one (Draft, Sealed Deck, Insanity, All Star, Specialized), in the order they were rolled. An Ascension 10 daily adds a second boss to the final act.
